UAE reward points have different redemption rules and should be compared in AED rather than by point totals. Cash redemption rates can be published by the bank; an airline-mile estimate depends on the fare and award you would actually book.
Some conversions are published by the bank. Others are estimates based on a redemption you hope to make. Keeping those two kinds of number separate prevents a forecast from becoming a false promise.
A rewards valuation table you can interpret
| Emirates Skywards | 0.055 assumed | Editorial flight-redemption assumption | Cash and award quotes for the same journey |
| Etihad Guest | 0.050 assumed | Editorial flight-redemption assumption | Cash and GuestSeat quotes for the same journey |
| ADCB TouchPoints, bill payment | 0.004 published conversion | 2,500 points = AED 10 | ADCB redemption terms and checkout |
| FAB Rewards via Skywards | 0.0034375 illustrative | 0.055 ÷ 16 rewards per mile | Transfer ratio plus your actual award |
| FAB Rewards via Etihad | 0.0041667 illustrative | 0.050 ÷ 12 rewards per mile | Transfer ratio plus your actual award |
| Cashback credit | 1.00 per AED credited | Monetary credit, not a points valuation | Statement and cashback conditions |
We have not verified a single fixed FAB travel-portal value of AED 0.004 per reward. Use the current cash, voucher or travel quote in your account. Neither a transfer ratio nor a high-value flight example establishes what every redemption is worth.
Calculate the effective earning rate
For a points card, multiply points earned per AED by AED value per point. For a miles card, use miles earned per AED. A hypothetical one-mile-per-AED earning rate at AED 0.055 per mile produces an estimated 5.5% reward value before fees. If your redemption instead saves AED 0.025 per mile, the same earning rate produces 2.5%.
| 1 Skywards mile per AED | 0.025 | 2.5% |
| 1 Skywards mile per AED | 0.055 | 5.5% |
| 1 Etihad mile per AED | 0.050 | 5.0% |
| 1.5 TouchPoints per AED | 0.004 | 0.6% |
| 5% cashback on eligible spend | Monetary credit | 5.0% before caps |
These are mathematical comparisons, not claims that the named currencies are earned at those rates on every card or merchant. School fees, utilities and government payments often have separate earning rules. International earnings may also depend on a currency conversion, while foreign-exchange fees reduce the net return.
When 5% cashback wins
Assume AED 2,000 of monthly spending qualifies for an uncapped 5% cashback return. That gives AED 100 per month, or AED 1,200 annually. A hypothetical card earning one mile per AED produces 24,000 miles annually. At AED 0.025 each, those miles save AED 600; at AED 0.055 each, they save AED 1,320.
If the miles card costs AED 500 more per year, its estimated net becomes AED 100 or AED 820 respectively. In both cases the extra fee can overturn the apparent advantage. Use incremental fees when comparing two cards; do not subtract the same shared cost twice.
Actual products such as Emirates NBD Duo and ADCB 365 Cashback have category, threshold and reward mechanics that need modelling. A 5% headline is not automatically 5% of your total household spending.
Put a price on the award you can book
Use this formula: (comparable cash fare − mandatory award cash charges) ÷ miles used. Compare the same dates, route and reasonable fare conditions. A business-class fare you would never buy can show a spectacular theoretical valuation without representing that much cash saved.
What does this redemption save?
Illustration only. Use a fare you would actually buy and include mandatory award charges. Lower cash fares, different refund rules and availability change the result.
An upgrade is different: compare the additional amount you would willingly pay for the upgrade with the extra cash and miles required. Do not value both the original ticket and the upgrade as if the miles paid for the whole trip.
Choose a programme around a use case
Start with a trip, redemption channel or monthly credit you can realistically use. Check availability, minimum redemption sizes, expiry and transfer timing before accumulating a large balance. Cash is simpler to evaluate when credited automatically; miles can be useful when your plans and flexibility support a strong redemption.
For a closer comparison, read Skywards valuation, Etihad Guest valuation and TouchPoints versus FAB Rewards. The rewards matcher makes the spending side of the comparison consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Which UAE reward point has the highest cash value?
There is no meaningful universal winner. Programmes issue different numbers of points per AED, and redemption values vary. Compare the effective return on the same purchases after fees and caps.
Are Skywards miles exactly worth 5.5 fils?
No. That is an illustrative editorial assumption used in some Dirham Perks estimates. Your net saving depends on the cash fare, award charges, miles required and whether you can book a useful seat.
What is the current TouchPoints bill-payment value?
ADCB’s published update states 2,500 TouchPoints for AED 10, giving AED 0.004 per point. Different redemption channels can have different values.
Is a cashback reward a point worth AED 1?
An AED 1 cashback credit is AED 1 of credit, but it is not a comparable point currency. The earning percentage, thresholds and caps determine how much cashback you receive.
