The AED-per-mile calculation
Subtract the award’s mandatory cash contribution from the comparable cash fare, then divide by miles required. Match dates, cabin and practical fare conditions. If you would take a different airline for much less, include that realistic alternative when judging personal value.

Search before choosing how to earn
Identify the destination, dates and number of passengers you need. Search the full reward booking route and inspect the fare rules. A calculator can help plan a balance, but it does not establish that a usable seat is available at that price.
Search reasonable nearby dates if you have flexibility. If you are tied to school holidays or need several seats together, use a conservative valuation. A reward that works for one traveller does not automatically work for a family booking.
Keep the cash portion within your travel budget. “Booked with miles” can still mean a meaningful payment from your bank account. Record the complete quote and the date you checked it rather than relying on an old screenshot shared online.
Refund rules are part of value
Award cancellation and change conditions can differ from those of a cash ticket. Read the rules for the selected reward before confirming. We do not assume that all GuestSeat bookings can be cancelled at one fixed fee or percentage: check the current programme and booking conditions.
For an uncertain journey, compare the realistic cost of flexibility. A slightly lower nominal miles value may be preferable if the fare is a better fit for your plans. Conversely, an expensive cash fare with flexibility you do not need can overstate the saving when used as your comparison.
What FAB Rewards transfers imply
The published 12-to-1 conversion is a bank programme ratio. Applying different assumed mile values produces different look-through values for one FAB Reward:

Before transferring, compare the bank’s current cash, voucher or other redemption quote. Check minimums and processing time, and confirm the award still works. A historic transfer-bonus banner is not evidence of an active offer; a dated promotion must still be within its stated period.
Compare the whole card proposition
Separate welcome miles from ongoing earnings. A welcome offer has eligibility and spending rules, while annual fees continue after the initial bonus. Excluded or reduced-earning merchant categories can materially affect a family’s estimate.
A hypothetical card generating 40,000 miles annually gives AED 2,000 of assumed value at AED 0.050. If its fee is AED 1,500, only AED 500 remains before other costs and separately assessed perks. If your awards realise AED 0.030, the same miles are worth AED 1,200 and the fee alone exceeds that value.
