Bringing Your Overseas Credit History to the UAE: Foreign Credit Reports Explained

Understand the AECB Foreign Credit Report for UAE newcomers. Ask about country coverage, lender access, consent and documents before using overseas history.

Official sources are linked below. First-year calculation · Ongoing-value calculation.

Key takeaways

  • The bureau offers a Foreign Credit Report service for relevant overseas history.
  • A foreign report is not the same product as your UAE credit report or local 3i score.
  • Ask the lender about participating countries, access, consent and fees before ordering anything.
  • Overseas history does not waive UAE affordability, income or employer checks.

Etihad Credit Bureau's Foreign Credit Report gives participating UAE lenders a route to consider overseas credit history. It does not automatically transfer a foreign score into a UAE score, establish card eligibility or guarantee approval. Confirm the current service route with both the bureau and your intended lender.

A foreign report and a UAE credit report answer different questions

Your UAE report records the domestic information reported to the bureau. A foreign report concerns available history from another country. The lender decides whether that evidence is relevant and sufficient alongside its own application checks.

Foreign Credit ReportIs the relevant country covered and can this lender obtain it?

UAE Credit Score 3iWhich model and scale applies to this profile?
Bank application decisionWhat income, service and affordability evidence is still needed?

Do not compare a number from one country's score scale directly with another. Read the AECB score guide for local model ranges and what a report contains.

Ask the lender before purchasing or sharing a report

Use the bureau's official Foreign Credit Report page and ADCB's guidance on bringing credit history to the UAE. Country coverage, participating lenders, required consent and the request process can change. This guide does not publish an unverified country list or service price.

Ask whether the lender initiates the request, which identity and previous-address details are required, whether translated documents are needed, who pays any fee and how long the report remains acceptable. A downloaded report from your home-country app may not substitute for the bank's chosen channel.

Never send your home-country banking password or bureau login to an agent. Provide identity and address evidence only through the bank or bureau's authenticated process. Ask what information is requested and how to correct an error; cross-border matching can be complicated when names, addresses or identifiers differ.

If an application fails, ask whether the issue is incomplete documentation, unavailable foreign history, a local policy or affordability. Buying another report without that explanation may not resolve it.

Check employment and affordability separately

A strong overseas record is not evidence of a UAE salary credit, an accepted employer, sufficient length of service or room under a debt-burden assessment. Disclose current commitments accurately and ask how overseas loans or obligations are assessed.

The DBR guide explains the difference between a credit score and repayment capacity. If employer acceptance is uncertain, read non-listed-company card routes before making several applications.

Build a useful local payment record

Keep contact details current, pay bills and statements on time and inspect entries rather than pursuing a particular score number. The official individual report has a separate scope and ordering process. A thin local file is not proof of poor payment behaviour, but banks may require additional evidence.

Compare suitable products without assuming newcomer approval

Use the card selector and cashback hub to understand published requirements. A product shown below is a comparison record, not a declaration that it accepts a foreign report or a newly arrived applicant.

Frequently asked questions

Does my overseas score become my AECB score?

No automatic score conversion is established here. A foreign report and a UAE bureau score are different records; lenders decide how to use the available evidence.

Which countries are supported and what does the service cost?

Confirm the current list, participating lender, consent route and price directly with the bureau and lender. This guide does not assign an unverified country list or fee.
